Dome of the Rock
The Dome of the Rock , is an Islamic shrine situated on the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem, and topped by an iconic famous gold dome. It was first constructed in 691 CE, built on the site of the Roman temple of Jupiter Capitolinus, which had previously been built on the site of the Second Jewish Temple. The original dome collapsed in 1015 and was rebuilt in 1022–23. The Dome of the Rock is one of the oldest existing works of Islamic architecture.
